Brideshead Revisited - 1981

(01/04/09...)

There was a superb British TV drama serial called Brideshead Revisited, which despite suffering from the background music shmultz disease, is still well worth watching. In fact it is essential viewing. It is still available on DVD I believe; I borrowed it from my local public library.

Religion, sex, love, class, friendship, power, death, and the value of human life. It asks all the essential questions. I can recommend watching all eleven episodes over a weekend, as I did. It will sweep up the fallen leaves in your heart and build a bonfire of them, and when they are all burnt it will scatter the ashes to the wind and leave you aching at the loss.

(But why the background music behind the dialogue? It's not necessary.)
